Hangouts is one of the products for communications developed by the Google corporation. Initially, it was a feature of Google+, but later, in 2013, it became a standalone product. In 2017, the company announced that the main target audience of Hangouts are enterprises. Today, it is a part of the G Suite line and consists of two main products: Google Hangouts Chat and Google Hangouts Meet. The platform is available on the following platforms: iOs, Android, Web platform, Chrome OS, Google Chrome, or any other browser that compatible with Google Chrome Extensions.

High-quality communication

The main goal of Hangouts is to provide users with high-quality communications no matter where they are. As it is a Google product, users can access it only through Gmail or Google+ websites. Another way is to install the application on iOS and Android. But here you also need to register or log in using the Google account. All the chats are saved and synchronized between various devices. It supports media files of different formats, including images, videos or gifs. By the way, the images are automatically uploaded into a Google+ album. Do not worry, it is private. A special ‘watermark’ feature allows users to see how far they have read into the conversation.

Google Hangouts Meet vs. Google Hangouts Chat

As we previously mentioned, Google Hangouts is a part of the G Suite line and consists of two main products: Google Hangout Meet and Google Hangout Chat. The first one was launched in March 2017. It was introduced as a group video conferencing suits for working needs. Hangout Meet allows you to connect up to 30 people to the conference. For now, it features a web app, Android and iOS applications. This product is a highly enterprise-oriented service. In short:

  • Up to 30 participants per call;
  • Can be accessed from various platforms;
  • Users can call into meetings using a dial-in number;
  • The dial-in numbers are protected with passwords (available only for G Suite Enterprise edition users);
  • Integration with Google+ Album and Google Calendar;
  • The opportunity to share your screen;
  • The calls are fully encrypted;
  • Real-time, AI-generated closed captioning.

In contrast, Hangouts Chat provides users with only text services. Such group chats can be accessed by up to 150 users. Users can send gifs, images, videos, documents, or animations.

Google Hangouts is a powerful platform for communication that was developed by Google and now is included in a G Suite line. It supports text and video chat that can be accessed by up 150 and 30 members at the same time respectively. In order to use Hangouts, you need to have an Internet connection; otherwise, the chats will not be updated. You can access the platform through the web application, or to install the app on the iOS or Android devices.
